Feathers for Lunch

This read-and-paint kit pairs a picture book with hands-on painting, designed to give kids two ways into the story while having fun.

• Reading brings in language, sequencing, and storytelling as you share the book together.
• Painting brings in creativity, imagination, color, and self-expression as they paint a scene from it.

What’s included:

• Feathers for Lunch by Lois Ehlert
• Pre-traced 8 x 10” canvas featuring the cat and cardinal from the cover of the book — perfect for young hands to color with confidence
• Full-color reference card for visual inspiration
• 12 non-toxic, vibrant paints that encourage color recognition and experimentation
• 2 child-safe brushes designed for fine motor control
• A wooden tabletop easel to display their final creation

Why it matters:

Reading a story and then painting it gives kids a second way to revisit the characters and talk about what happened. This kit brings reading and art together in a joyful, accessible way — a screen-free hour together.
